ABS specifications of propeller materials
| Stainless Steel | Tensile Strength | Yield Point | Elongation |
| CF3 | 70,000 psi | 30,000 psi | 35% |
| CF8 | 70,000 psi | 30,000 psi | 35% |
| Bronzes | Tensile Strength | Yield Point | Elongation |
| Manganese (type2) | 65,000 psi | 25,000 psi | 20% |
| Nibral (type4) | 85,000 psi | 35,000 psi | 15% |
Aqualloy (type5 Mod) | 80,000 psi | 32,000 psi | 35% |
We have several ABS Certificates from these materials. We're sure you noticed Nibral is stronger than Stainless Steel, but has no elongation. AQUALLOY is stronger with the same elongation.
1. Elongation: For those new to this area, this concept refers to how much the material is "deformed" by adding gradual strength (tensile strength) just before it "breaks." First we measure the material before the test. Then we use test bars, adding tensile strength to the different materials (alloys) until it breaks. We now measure the length on the test bar at the point of breakage. The more elongation the material has, the more easier it is to repair a propeller blade in case it gets bent. Aqualloy has the highest percentage of elongation in comparison to the other alloys at 80,000 PSI of tensile strength.
2. We do not manufacture stainless steel propellers.
